Psychodynamic Counsellor and Couple Therapist
Psychodynamic Counsellor and Couple Therapist
I am a psychodynamic therapist who works in a client-led manner to support individuals and couples looking for deeper insight and long-lasting change. Whatever the hurt, experience has shown me that getting better starts when we feel safe enough to open up and connect.
It is my aim to provide a trusting and confidential space where you can share your story and, with help, make connections between past experiences and present difficulties to gain insight into your current feelings and behaviours.
I believe in learning by doing, so, in the last fifteen years, I have worked and volunteered for a number of charities and services supporting clients impacted by a diverse range of difficulties, including loss, bereavement, substance misuse, sexual abuse, homelessness, cultural and geographical displacement, as well as LGBTQAI+ related issues. In my most recent roles in the NHS, I worked as an assistant psychologist in an autism diagnosis service, as well as a couples therapist offering counselling to people impacted by depression, anxiety and stress.
In my private practice as a counsellor, I continue to have a strong interest in helping individuals and couples who may be feeling stuck, but are willing to understand more about their current situation and ready to find a way forward.
I am a neurodiversity-affirming therapist and I find working with neurodivergent people and couples highly rewarding. If you or your relationships struggle because of ADHD diagnosis/presentation, I am here to help. By supporting you to gain a better understanding of your experiences and by modeling a compassion-based relationship with your ADHD diagnosis/presentation, I can help you address ADHD-specific difficulties, as well as generic relationship struggles that might make life harder than it should be.
Whatever issues you are facing, I hold the belief that, ultimately, we all need the space to be heard and seen as we make sense of what we are going through. Therefore, in our sessions, we will focus on you and your experiences as a whole, the past and the present, the conscious and unconscious elements of your presentation, and we will build a therapeutic relationship that aims to empower you and help you find yourself again.
I hold a Clinical Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, a Certificate in Couples's Counselling for Depression, as well as a master’s degree from the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies in Jungian Studies (MA) and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (BSc).
I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a Tavistock Relationships-approved couple’s therapist for depression.

Integrative Counsellor
Ready for real change? This is where it all begins.
Being a human is complicated, and life can be overwhelming for so many reasons. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, life transitions or something else, therapy with me is an opportunity to process emotions and events in a private, safe, and consistent space.
I have a first-class BA Honours in Integrative Counselling and I’m a registered member of the BACP. I have a wide range of clients from all different walks of life, ages and cultural backgrounds and an integrative approach allows me to adapt therapy to evolving individual needs. I draw on a few approaches including Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Transactional Analysis and CBT. I am fully insured; I engage in continual professional development and ongoing clinical supervision to support and enhance my therapeutic work.
I passionately believe that to make therapy accessible for more people, it should be more transparent and less mysterious. I strive to be authentically human and to use straightforward language (no psychobabble here!) to support you in a warm and down-to-earth way, wherever you’re at in your therapy journey.
Through the working relationship I offer, you will feel valued, heard, and understood and get greater clarity about whatever you’re dealing with. Over time, you will start to understand how unhelpful patterns from the past impact your life now, discover tools for making positive changes, and discover how truly wonderful, resilient and capable you are.
Sarah holds a BA (Hons) in counselling and is a member of the BACP. She offers sessions face-to-face and online via zoom.

In recent years her counselling has included helping students studying with A-levels and degrees.
Her work focuses on creating a supportive therapeutic relationship, offering a safe and calm space where individuals can share difficult feelings and emotions. A relationship in which the individual feels heard, no longer fearful or ashamed, 'held' but not trapped, noticed but not judged. In this space the individual's mind can settle and hope can follow. There are no expectations about how an individual should be in the counselling room; the only aim will be to work towards their personal goals and seek out positive change.

Rebecca is a qualified integrative counsellor and has experience in working with individuals from many different backgrounds and walks of life. Working integratively means she uses a range of approaches to help individuals with the problems they are facing. This allows for flexibility and enables her to work with her clients in a way that resonates with them.
Rebecca is compassionate and offers gentle curiosity and challenge, acceptance, and a safe confidential space where clients are able to explore the difficulties that they are facing. She believes that therapy helps us to recognise our story and to feel empowered with how to carry it forward. This often occurs when we stop looking to the external world for cues on who to be or what might make us good enough, and instead turn this attention inwards - to learn, to listen, hear and trust our own voice.
She believes that all of us have the ability to understand and express our deepest selves, to heal and grow. The therapist is there to help remove the barriers that are in the way of this growth, and to start you on your own path of self-discovery. The relationship between client and therapist is the key to this. Rebecca's belief and experience are that through the trust that comes in the therapeutic relationship, you will learn to develop trust in yourself and in the answers that are within. This enables clients to develop new perspectives and better understand how they see themselves and their place in the world, allowing them to make changes that lead to a more fulfilling life. She is also deeply interested in the impact of reproductive trauma and the struggles people face with regards to their fertility story. Alongside this, she also works as a therapist at a charity working with adult survivors of childhood abuse.

Psychodynamic Counsellor and Couple Therapist
Elliot is an experienced psychodynamic counsellor and couple therapist providing a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for individuals and couples to explore their experiences and feelings and talk through whatever may be troubling them.
He has worked with a variety of people from a wide range of backgrounds and with a range of difficulties including feelings of depression and low mood, anxiety related problems, relationship difficulties, anger issues, low self worth and feelings of worthlessness and stress related difficulties.
As a couple therapist, Elliot’s aim is to create a space enabling each partner to express their thoughts and feelings around the relationship and how they experience the other and themselves within it. It may be necessary to think about each partner’s early life as this will help to understand how early relationship experiences have influenced feelings of being in a relationship, intimacy, expectations of each other and the different ways each partner attempts to resolve conflict – which could be challenging it defensively or withdrawing from it completely. This understanding and insight will enable the couple to begin to listen to each other, understand the impact each has on the other and why, and how this could be different.
He believes that everyone has their own unique journey and experiences, and as a result, therapy should be attuned to the individual and/or the couple. As an individual counsellor Elliot works with people to support them in gaining greater insight into their inner and outer worlds, their relationships and to develop a greater understanding of their behaviours, feelings and emotions.
Elliot holds a professional Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, has undertaken CPD in couple and relationship therapy and is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Integrative Psychotherapist, Couples Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor
Mark has been a practising psychotherapist for 15 years. He works with individuals, couples and groups on an open ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling indviduals and couples to enhance their lives and live them more fully. He is also a clinical supervisor and has the pleasure of supervising other counsellors and therapists.

He is trained to work with Eating Disorders and specialises in working with Binge Eating Disorder and in providing pre and post srgery support to clients having bariatric surgery
Mark has a particular interest, and extensive experience, in working with HSPs (highly sensitive people) as well as many neurodiverse individuals including those with Tourette's Syndrome, ASD, ADHD and PDA and individuals from the LGBTQI+ community.
He is trained to use different approaches to meet the individual needs of individuals and couples and these include; psychodynamic (looking at the past and how it is affecting us today), systemic (looking at patterns in relationships), mindfulness (paying attention to our thoughts 'in the moment') and positive psychology (research based techniques to increase happiness and resilience). His therapeutic approach is very down to earth which he hopes will put individuals and couples at ease.
Individual Psychotherapy
Mark works collaboratively with individuals and considers therapy to be a joint process. He aims to create a safe and secure environment where he can support individuals in developing greater self awareness and understanding of the conscious and unconscious causes of their problems. He won't tell individuals what to do but will rather engage with them in exploring the dilemmas they seek to address. He will listen and ask questions, suggesting possible patterns and linking these to the past suggesting techniques which may be helpful. He will support individuals in understanding what is happening, why it is happening and working on new ways of being.
Couples Therapy
It is likely couples coming to therapy have brought relating patterns from their own childhood experiences. Some of these are positive and help to sustain and evolve relationships whilst others have no place in the present. Humans tend to repeat behaviours unconsciously and becoming aware of these relating patterns provides a choice to do something new rather than endlessly repeating a pattern learnt as children. It is useful to explore areas such as; attachment styles, communication styles, conflict management - including how conflicts are 'repaired', negotiation around difference, parenting styles, personality types and how these interact, issues around sex, money and extended family, cultural differences, gender differences and neurodiversity. Mark has worked extensively with affairs and betrayal.

Psychodynamic Counsellor
About me
Do you have a space in your life to sit, reflect and be truly honest?
Are you juggling overwhelming emotions such as anxiety, depression, anger, loss, frustration and you feel alone with your thoughts?
Are you struggling to connect with people in your life?
Do you feel lost at work or in your home life?
Do you tend to self-sabotage or doubt your own ability?
Often we choose to invest in our physical health, our home, our lifestyle, hobbies, vacations, but is there sometimes a reluctance to do the same with our mental health? Perhaps hoping the issues will correct themselves?
What to expect:
In our weekly 50 minute sessions, we will work together to create a confidential, calm and holding environment for us to discuss and explore why you may feel this way. We will look at your unconscious thoughts and patterns which may be stopping you from what you truly want.
I am led by what you choose to bring to our sessions and you will be encouraged to be yourself. I strive to maintain an inclusive space that is LGBTQIA+ friendly and diverse, inclusive of people from all walks of life.
My training in Psychodynamic Counselling creates a framework for our sessions where as I learn more about you I will create links to your relationships, traumas, events and childhood experiences; we can think and make sense of these together. We can discover why you feel this way and work towards freeing yourself from these issues and creating more peace in your mind, inner world and external life.
Who will benefit:
Those with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, OCD, ADHD, abusive relationships, sexual abuse, eating disorders, and addictions are just a few areas of experience I have worked with but I welcome anybody who is feeling stuck and ready for change to reach out.
Difficulties in our past tend to show up in our present in the forms of poor relationships with money, food, a lack of control over our emotions, inability to allow ourselves to rest and recharge, pleasure-seeking through overspending or relying on substances to numb these feelings. I will provide a non judgemental space to air these issues and we will identify together what you hope to seek from therapy.
Where we can meet:
As well as working in person in the comfortable rooms in The Stephenson Centre, I also offer sessions via Zoom.
Training, qualifications & experience
I work with people with a range of issues but most predominantly people with trauma, anxiety, depression, self sabotage, low self esteem and intrusive thoughts. I have been working with clients on a weekly basis for the past 2.5 years.
I hold a Masters degree in Psychodynamic Counselling from the University of Essex, I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I continue to engage with clinical supervision and ongoing professional development.
