Psychodynamic Counsellor and Couple Therapist
Elliot is an experienced psychodynamic counsellor and couple therapist providing a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for individuals and couples to explore their experiences and feelings and talk through whatever may be troubling them.
He has worked with a variety of people from a wide range of backgrounds and with a range of difficulties including feelings of depression and low mood, anxiety related problems, relationship difficulties, anger issues, low self worth and feelings of worthlessness and stress related difficulties.
As a couple therapist, Elliot’s aim is to create a space enabling each partner to express their thoughts and feelings around the relationship and how they experience the other and themselves within it. It may be necessary to think about each partner’s early life as this will help to understand how early relationship experiences have influenced feelings of being in a relationship, intimacy, expectations of each other and the different ways each partner attempts to resolve conflict – which could be challenging it defensively or withdrawing from it completely. This understanding and insight will enable the couple to begin to listen to each other, understand the impact each has on the other and why, and how this could be different.
He believes that everyone has their own unique journey and experiences, and as a result, therapy should be attuned to the individual and/or the couple. As an individual counsellor Elliot works with people to support them in gaining greater insight into their inner and outer worlds, their relationships and to develop a greater understanding of their behaviours, feelings and emotions.
Elliot holds a professional Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, has undertaken CPD in couple and relationship therapy and is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
